The Meaning In Life
(©2018 Anders/O’Bitz)

A long time ago
I wore the weird hat
I worked some long hours
For those slaps on my back

The speaker stood up
And spoke to my class
Said life is a story
And to live it like that

But life has a real end
My friend

And I don’t see it that way
Life ain’t a story
Or some commencement cliché
I try to see the real end
And accept that meaning
On which we depend
In life, in life

A long time has gone
I’ve walked my weird path
I worked some long hours
For those slaps on my back

In the eyes of my loves
And not through my wits
I find meaning that’s strong
But no narrative fits

And I’m getting nearer the end
My friend

And I don’t see it that way
Life ain’t a story
Or some commencement cliché
I try to see the real end
And accept/Not cast off that meaning
On which we depend
In life, in life

Ooh ah ...

And I don’t see it that way
Life ain’t a story
Or some commencement cliché
I try to see the real end
Not cast off that meaning
On which we depend

And I don’t see it that way
Life ain’t a story
Or some commencement cliché
I try to see the real end
Not cast off that meaning
On which we depend
In life, in life
